This is a rare opportunity to visit The College of Arms.


Heralds were first mentioned at the time of the First Crusade and became prominent in the late 12th Century. In 1484 King Richard III granted them a Charter of incorporation with a house in the City of London. Since then, the Heralds have build a unique history of armorial and family records.

 

The visit will begin with the history of heraldry and the role of the Heralds, this will be followed by an introduction to the architecture of the building before seeing hte Record Room where we will view a selction of records dating back some 500 years. This will be followed by wine and a finger buffer supper.

 

Our guide will be William Hunt, TD, FCA, the current Windsor Herald of Arms in Ordinary at the College of Arms in London. He worked for many years in the City of London as a chartered accountant. He was appointed Portcullis Pousuivant in 1992 and in  1999 Windsor Herald/ In 2007 he took over the position of Registrar and has been a Member of Council of the Heraldry Societry since 1997. He is also Clerk of HM COmmission of Lieutenatcy for the City of London, A member of Commom Council of the City of London COrporation, A Liverymand and a Past Master of the Worshipful Company of Makers of Playing Cards and was a Major of the Honourable Artillery Company.
